PL/I for OS/2 Code

Here are a few programs written in IBM PL/I 1.1 or OS/2. They require the PL/I 1.1 DLLs from Hobbes if you don't already have them. They come with no warranties, but on the good side, they come with no restrictions on use or redistribution. If you find them useful, you're welcome to them.

• pliform.zip is an OS/2 port of the popular PL/I source code reformatter from Cornell. It has been updated to run on OS/2, but does not yet have special formatting capabilities for new VisualAge/Enterprise PL/I keywords like PACKAGE and DEFINE.

• clike.zip PL/I 1.1 does not have the fileread, filewrite, etc. builtin functions. "Clike" is a package a few "C-like" procedures that provide equivalents of the C library functions fread, fwrite, fopen, fclose, mkdir, and getcwd. This will probably be expanded as needed, and may eventually grow to become a full-fledged library. The idea is to put all code requiring the OS/2 %include files into a separate package so many programs can be written without requiring them. If anyone has anything else to contribute, I'll be happy to include it.

• filefind.pli This is a small procedure to search for a file in a list of directories, specified by a combination of pathnames and/or environment variables. The file extension may be requested to match one of a caller provided list of possible extensions. Only the first matching filename is returned. Filefind was written for a non-IBM compiler and uses its own bindings for the OS/2 functions called. However, it is source-compatible with IBM PL/I for OS/2, and will compile with that compiler also. The description of how to call filefind is included in the comments at the beginning of the program.

• plibz2.zip "Plibz2" is a set of PL/I bindings for the libbzip2 data compression library. It is an extension to the bzip 1.0.1 package from Hobbes. You will need to download bzip2/libbzip2 (above), and will also need the emx runtimes. This package consists of a .def file for the library, a .lib file for linking with your PL/I program, and a .cpy file with definitions of the library entry points. A small sample program and makefile are also included. This package has not been exhaustively tested.

• os2misc.zip This zipfile contains a few %include files I find useful: translation tables for ASCII codepage 819 to EBCDIC codepage 1047 and back, and the Rexx-like procedures 'word', 'wordpos', and 'words'.

• numrec.zipThese are a couple of programs converted from FORTRAN versions in the book Numerical Recipes by William H. Press, et.al. All that are done to date are three random number generators and Moments of a Distribution. Hopefully more will follow, but rather than let these sit idle I decided to post them here in case anyone wants them.

• secs.pli A PL/I procedure to convert the current date and time to Lilian format, like the Enterprise PL/I builtin SECS().
